Research on application of room air-wall air conditioning to high-power density air-cooled server cabinets

Taking a certain project as an example, this paper analyses the air distribution in a high-power density computer room under the air supply mode of room air-wall air conditioning. A computer room model with the air supply mode of room air-wall air conditioning is established using the 6Sigma Room simulation software to verify the feasibility of applying room air-wall air conditioning to high-power density computer rooms, and the impacts of the air supply distance and the air valve configuration of room air-wall air conditioning on air distribution are analysed. The results indicate that the cooling method of air supply via room air-wall air conditioning can meet the heat dissipation requirements of high-power density computer rooms, such as those with a power density of 20 kW per cabinet. When the air supply distance is relatively short (0.8 m and 1.2 m), a local negative pressure phenomenon occurs at the first row of cabinets near the air wall. When the air supply distance is 0.8 m, the lowest negative pressure is approximately -17.70 Pa, and when it is 1.2 m, the lowest negative pressure is about -4.18 Pa. When the air supply distance exceeds 1.2 m, the outlet air temperature and air intake volume of the cabinets remain largely unchanged. The air valve configuration has a relatively minor impact on the outlet air temperature and air intake volume of the cabinets, and closing the bottom air valves can reduce the overall static pressure in the computer room.
